Why Do People Get Tattoos?
For some people, tattoos are an incredible form of artwork - body art at its best. They represent an inner feeling, a deep emotion, or something which is special to the wearer. To some other people though, tattoos are looked upon as being part of the "rock-n-roll" era - something which was trendy in the past, and something which should have died out by now.
Whilst there are absolutely no long term medical issues with tattooing, a further bunch of people cite tattoos as a form of rebellion against society - perhaps because of the famous mug shots of tattoo wearers we see on the television night after night.
All of these views are valid, and there is certainly no need to argue with people about their person feelings towards tattooing. However, what should be noted is that not everyone gets a tattoo for the same reason. There are a number of varying situation where someone may wish to be tattooed - meaning that diversity and an open mind are needed when assessing the question posed by the heading in this article.
So what are some of these reasons why people get tattoos? And, if the second group of people are right, why are tattoos becoming increasingly popular in the western cultures of the world? This is certainly an interesting question.
Popularity Trends
Aside from the culturally required tattoos often imprinted in to the skin of people by obligation rather than by choice, tattoos are now one of the most common and readily accepted forms of body art in the world. It is estimated that some 20% of people (or one fifth of the population) will get a tattoo at some point in their lives.
There are a number of reasons for this. The most, and probably the most relevant is that people are seeing tattoos more and more as a way of expressing themselves. In a society where we have to keep very much inside the rules and regulations of modern day living, a tattoo is a chance to have a unique aspect engraved in to the wearer.
Additionally, because of the nature of tattoos, they are something which can never be taken away from them. Regardless of what happens in a persons lifetime, that tattoo will always remain as a memory of what once was.
